My sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to the NECHA 2014 Annual Meeting: Making Waves in College Health The setting, the sessions, and the engagement of all the attendees made the meeting a dynamic and fun learning experience. I am still recovering from the soiree where most people thought my costume was a mouse, squirrel, or donkey. For those who are interested, I was supposed to be a wolf but I think the floppy ears caused some identity confusion. One person thought I was a lemur. Probably the same person who came up with Orange Jaguar from Djibouti during our keynote exercise!
There is something about the smell of the ocean that makes me smile and relax. I have many fond memories of the meeting and feel energized for the final push of the semester. There was a fair amount of talk at the meeting about how to continue the connection and collaboration that people experience at the annual meeting throughout the year.
We are very pleased that Leah Berkenwald from Wentworth Institute of Technology. and Jessica Greher Traue from Bentley University, will be leading our social media efforts to stay connected. We also have the NECHA listserv that is run by Joleen Nevers at the University of Connecticut. If you would like to subscribe to the listserv where you can keep track of hot topics as well as get advice and ask questions, please email Joleen at: Joleen.Nevers@UCONN.edu. (Under the subject of the email put: “Subscribe New England College Health – L”)
There is talk that the nurses put together an impromptu Hot Topics session last week and talked about enhancing networking throughout the year. A nursing listserv may also be in the works. More to follow!
We have so many talented members in NECHA; let’s get some recognition for them! On the ACHA website is a list of all the awards and information on what is necessary to nominate someone. The deadline for nominations is January 12, 2015, so start thinking and planning about who you would like to nominate now!
I will be chairing a committee to nominate the Affiliate New Professional Award. This person needs to be a member of ACHA (they can join now if not a member) and needs to have worked in college health for five years or less. Each person nominated needs two letters of support. Please send the nomination letters for the New Professional Award to me at: Mark.H.Reed@Dartmouth.edu and put “Affiliate New Professionals Award” in the subject heading. Please have the completed nominations to me no later than December 31 as I need to share them with the selection committee before sending the information to ACHA in early January.
I look forward to working with the new Board and serving as NECHA’s president for the coming year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Thank you!
