The overall mission of Student Health Services is to keep students healthy so that they may achieve their academic, personal, and athletic goals. Counseling Services is a part of Student Health Services, with of helping students to maximize their sense of well-being as well as their academic, personal and social growth.
The Director of the Counseling Center provides medical and clinical leadership, vision and direction for the professional services including psychiatry and counseling.The Director is responsible for Rensselaer’s integrated, holistic and collaborative behavioral health caremodel that addresses the developmental and mental health needs of Rensselaer students. The Director is responsible for the administration, accreditation, planning and evaluation of mental health programs and services. As a Psychiatrist, the Director provides direct clinical and consultation services for Rensselaer’s students as needed. The successful candidate must also be comfortable presenting to a wide range of audiences, including staff, students, parents, and the Board of Trustees, etc.

- Required Certifications: Medical license, Professional psychiatry certification and Board Certified or Eligible
- Licensed to practice in New York
- Five (5) years of directly related experience including demonstrated administrative experience encompassing supervisory, financial management, and strategic planning
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include the following: the ability to assess and provide for the psychiatric care of patients with mental, emotional and developmental needs. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with, supervise and lead a team of other healthcare providers, and other related staff. The position requires strong clinical skills and judgment, and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. The incumbent must have the ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Candidates must be strong communicators, and have a track record of being able to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
